The confessing, non-compromising church is in a for a very rough ride in the future. This week’s election results represented an existential change in American politics and consequently the fabric of America itself. America has changed and that change will accelerate under the new regime.
If you dispute this look south. TEXAS TURNED DEMOCRAT. In effect, the Mexican border just moved north from the Rio Grande to the Red. Within hours of the election, the Mayor of Houston ordered his police department to stop cooperating with federal immigration authorities.
Newly elected Democratic leaders are openly talking about what they have to do to maintain the “anti-facist/ANTIFA” contingent that helped elect them. Spineless Republicans are already turning left chasing their lost voters. Some of the people elected last week are outright socialists. Others represent religious values that are openly hostile to the Christian faith. Some openly admit their mission is cultural hegemony in the name of a faith which is in fact also a hostile political system. Traditional Christianity does not fare well under either of these philosophies of governance.
Those of you who do not engage the culture probably didn’t notice what happened during past Democratic administrations. For those of us who did, our electronic accounts were constantly monitored and effective communication via both the net and the media were silenced. No explanations. your net traffic was just blocked or your ISP just refused to serve you when announcing public events. One inquiry from a federal agency killed friendly media contacts that had taken years to cultivate. In some cases bank accounts were canceled based upon political, social or religious positions leaving the organizations and corporations unable to collect or transfer funds. Some veterans lost both their disability payments and their medical care for being suspected of involvement in first amendment activity the regime opposed. I have personal experience with some of these events.
In some extreme cases, law enforcement and the justice system were used to silence political critics such as traditional Catholics who were viewed as enemies of the regime. Some protestant churches, such as the Calvary Chapels, felt the full brunt of an unelected bureaucratic system ruled by career left wing operatives. Even the late John MacArthur’s scrupulously non political Grace Community Church came into conflict with authorities.
AND NATIONWIDE THE LOCAL CHURCH WAS MOSTLY SILENT.
Which brings us to last week’s disaster. All of that was before the current highly polarized political atmosphere enveloped the nation. Many factions of the now ruling party view violence as an acceptable tactic for political change or at least refuse to condemn their supporters who do which is the same. Many others view the use of official power to enforce their social and cultural agenda as perfectly acceptable. If you don’t conform you don’t get a job, can’t get a license, won’t be selected for promotion or won’t be selected for educational opportunities. If you followed the court cases, those types of oppression are already firmly established in the permanent bureaucracy. They will now flourish. I also have personal experience with some of these events.
This type of left wing takeover inevitably results in chaos and government paralysis. With the left in control of both houses the Trump administration is a powerless figurehead. Trump administration officials started resigning within hours. Our enemies both foreign and domestic will use this to their advantage.
And, when bad things inevitably happen under left wing administrations scapegoats are necessary to prevent the population from turning on them. Christians and Jews are the historic targets. Some leading REPUBLICANS are already blaming the US relation with Israel for the loss of the election. This is a recipe for apocalyptic events.
The bottom line here is that anti-Christian violence and further oppression is a real possibility in the coming months and years. That will affect churches whether or not you actually stood up in the culture. Your “neutrality” or “moderation” will be no protection. Your silence will have bought you no protection. Christianity alone is enough to make you an enemy of the regime. And, if previous experience is a guide, law enforcement and the justice system will be very reluctant to do anything about it.
The American Church needs to repent and pray for deliverance …. though it certainly doesn’t deserve it. We were blessed beyond measure and took it for granted. We were silent on the key moral and spiritual issues necessary to maintain an effective Christian presence in the culture and we will now pay the price for it. May God have mercy on us.
